Clean a link or shorten it? Choose around what you want to share

A long address can contain both useful information and campaign tags. Making it shorter and removing selected tags are two different jobs. Choose the one your message needs.

Short answer

A link cleaner removes selected query parameters while keeping the destination URL. A URL shortener creates another address that redirects to the destination. Use CleanSend when you want to share the original destination with fewer tracking parameters on iPhone.

Look at the address before choosing a tool

The path identifies the page, while query parameters can describe a campaign, a search, a language, or a selected product variation. They do not all serve the same purpose.

In this example, the campaign tag can be removed while the product color remains. The brand and page stay visible.

Compare the two jobs

Cleaning keeps an address on the destination’s own domain. Shortening substitutes a new address and relies on a redirect to open the final page. A short link can still lead to a destination with campaign parameters.

Clean the link in the sharing flow

On iPhone, share the URL to CleanSend. It removes known tracking parameters and opens a sharing flow for the cleaned result. You can also paste a URL into the app when starting from the clipboard.

For an unusual parameter, use a custom rule when you know it is unwanted. Keep a selected size, search term, or language if it is part of what you intend to send.

  1. Open the page you want to share.
  2. Send its link to CleanSend or paste it into the app.
  3. Check that the destination still opens the intended page.
  4. Share the cleaned address with the recipient.

Choose a readable result

A visible destination helps the recipient recognize the site. CleanSend’s local history also lets you return to links you have cleaned before.

Cleaning selected parameters does not change the destination’s cookies or turn a visit anonymous. Its practical benefit is simpler control over the address you pass along.

Questions

Does shortening remove tracking tags?

A shorter redirect can still lead to the original tagged destination. Cleaning and redirecting are separate operations.

Should I remove everything after the question mark?

Keep parameters needed for the page, selected product, search, or language. Remove the tags you have identified as unwanted.
