iPhone Visual Look Up or a dedicated plant identifier?

Your iPhone may already have a quick way to look up a plant in a photo. A dedicated plant app adds a different reason to return: keeping the discoveries and their profiles together.

Short answer

Try Visual Look Up in Photos for a quick lookup when it is available. Choose Plant Identifier AI Scanner for a dedicated scan workflow, common and scientific names, care profiles, local scan history, and an offline houseplant catalog.

Try the Photos lookup first

Apple’s Visual Look Up recognizes plants and other subjects in supported photos. Open the image in Photos and look for the Info button with stars, then choose Look Up when it appears.

Its availability depends on supported devices, regions, languages, and images. If the option does not appear, that particular photo has not provided a usable lookup through that workflow.

Choose a dedicated place for repeated discoveries

Plant Identifier is organized around taking or uploading plant photos and returning to the results. The profile brings common and scientific names, origin, family, and general care into the scan.

Saved history keeps the picture with the result on your device. That is useful when you identify several plants or want to return to the name of a cutting you received last month.

Understand the offline part

Plant Identifier’s houseplant catalog can be browsed offline. New photo analysis uses an internet connection. Browse the catalog when disconnected and make new scans once you have a connection.

That distinction helps you plan a walk or a visit: keep useful plant photos, then return to the identification workflow when you can submit them.

Try it with a plant you want to remember

Choose a photo of a real plant you are curious about. Open the match, compare visible features, and save the result. Return to the history to see whether having the name and photo together is useful to you.

The app is free to download, with current access and purchase options shown in the app and App Store. Choose it for the discovery workflow you want to keep using.

  1. Try a quick Photos lookup if it appears.
  2. Scan the plant in Plant Identifier.
  3. Explore the name and care profile.
  4. Return to the saved discovery later.
